LightWave Solar
Working with LightWave Solar I was brought in to help create designs and graphics that could be used to increase brand awareness and gain referrals from customers, friends, and visitors who come across businesses or cars. We wanted to stay away from anything too childlike; we wanted this to appeal to adults. The goal was to keep things clean and minimal while still making it fun.

We wanted the designs to work well across various mediums. This idea inspired us (the client and me) to create two versions of the logo that could be used interchangeably across apparel, accessories, and store signage. We created versions with transparent backgrounds that work for vinyl cuts, screen printing, and can easily be uploaded to print provider platforms for things like stickers, water bottles, and custom requests. I also created mockups that could be sent to print providers as references.

Here are the initial concepts proposed to the client based on the feedback provided from the written briefs. I outsourced the illustration for the solar panel and worked it into a badge shape. We wanted to create something modular, and a badge shape fit the bill perfectly. These directions varied in complexity, ranging from minimal Swiss-style design to something more illustrative and vintage. Out of the bunch, we moved forward with 7, 11, and 15, making minor changes and adjustments along the way. I put the designs through a few rounds of tightening, ensuring the micro and macro spacing, is balanced within the designs.

At the beginning of this process, I like to allow my ideas to marinate, sketch, and write out all of the ideas that I have. These sketches then serve as my starting point for creating written concepts to propose to the client, these written concepts consist of ideas from my sketchbook I use words and supporting inspiration to describe the ideas instead of the sketches themselves. This helps us hone in on what we liked and didn’t like about each direction, which clarifies the overall vision.
